Phishing scam targeting Singapore visa

If you’re planning a trip or move to Singapore, double check the website you’re using to sort out your visas and travel documents.

Singapore’s Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) issued warnings on 17 April about a fake ICA website. It asks visitors to provide their visa reference numbers as well as details about passports and travel documents.

The offending website can be found at www. mom-sg-gov.ml/save.ica.gov.sg/save-public/index.html (not that you’d want to find it). It looks remarkably similar to the official ICA website, but there are differences in logo and font size and colours. It also lacks the important “https” extension that indicates a secure website.

The legitimate website is here. If you have any enquiries about visas or passports, or if you’re making an application, check that you’re using the right web address.

The ICA started work immediately to bring down the fake website, but it’s a timely reminder for all travellers to pay attention to web addresses for any official business you do online.

There have been other phishing scams of note in Singapore over the last several months. In December last year there was a scam with websites masquerading as banks and airlines, and in January there a case of phishing that used the official app.
